Best Mac & Cheese in Chicago
The seasons are changing. Summer has had its last gasp and our annual two weeks of fall is almost over. The imposing will of winter, its sub-zero nights and gale force winds increasing in intensity as they bounce off those downtown buildings is coming...quickly. Seek shelter and seek comfort food. Seek a seat at the Lockdown Bar and Grill.
Am I congratulating myself on have an establishment with four walls and a ceiling? Of course not (well, maybe a little). Rather, I am bragging about out Mac and Cheese. This is not some goop, equivalent to the fare at the Hollywood Grill. No, this is a Build-Your-Own necessity for the six months of chilly evenings ahead.
Start with the base, the Mac and Cheese we all know as that wonderfully concoction and staple of every Midwestern household. Add bacon because bacon makes everything better, or add caramelized onions, cherry tomatoes, and green onions for your daily helping of vegetables. Drop any pretension of eating nutritiously and add carnitas (little bits of roasted meats, kind of like supersized bacon bits), spicy chorizo, and crumbling bits of Gorgonzola melting into the cheese, giving it an extra bite. Or tread even more recklessly, journey forth with abandon and add jalapeno relish. The possibilities are endless. Well not endless, but many.
The Lockdown Bar and Grill simply has the best Mac and Cheese in Ukrainian Village, the whole West Town, and, perhaps, all of Chicago. Come in anytime and judge for yourself.
